For the first time, photographers Vincent Munier and Laurent Ballesta have travelled together to discover the natural treasures of Adélie Land, in Antarctica.

Vincent Munier explored the ice field and the bird colonies, while Laurent Ballesta dove under the ice; one observed the emperor penguins and snow petrels in the open air, while the other dove with the Weddell seals and photographed the astonishing and unknown biodiversity of the Antarctic depths… Both have brought unique pictures from this exceptional trip, where the whiteness of the ice contrasts with the submarine blue.

« Adélie, Land & Sea » is the result of artistic and technique challenges, as well as a very fine object: it gathers two volumes (one white, one blue) in a beautiful slipcase.

Text in French only (very short - two poems by director Luc Jacquet)

De crépuscule en crépuscule

A journey from dusk to dusk including 40 pictures... The ghostly silhouette of a deer coming out of the forest at dawn, a snowy owl waking up as the storm goes away, Ethiopian wolves hunting during a cloudy night... Twilight atmospheres over such different landscapes. From the Norwegian tundra to the African steppe, Vincent Munier uses a similar approach.

First published as an exhibition catalog, this book is an original creation of its own, with Vincent's worldwide photographic work, but also texts by Pierre Pelot, a famous writer from the Vosges mountains.

TANCHO

Released in 2004, Tancho is now a collectible book that invites us to an encounter with the rare and elegant Red-crowned Crane, on the Japanese island of Hokkaido. This spectacular bird, known as Tancho, is a symbol of long life, happiness and fidelity. In an exceptionally large format, enjoy the dance of the Crane, the bath of the Whooper Swan and the quiet falling of the snow...

Look at these photographs. Or listen to them. Listen to their quality of silence. A quality that provokes in us an agreement. A very ancient, luminous and unforeseeable agreement, between marvel and mystery. Think. Let yourself go. No beauty without silence.

Au fil des songes

A photographic work carried out by Michel and Vincent Munier, together with soft poems by CharlElie Couture. Amazing pictures and subtle words take the reader to a journey into a secret, fragile and ignored nature. An unreal world which however stands on our doorstep. All these photographs were shot in Lorraine, on the ponds, the peat bogs, or in the old forests of Eastern France. Primitive accents... Let us share unique moments, in the private world of lynx, foxes, woodpeckers, owls... It took many years to Michel and Vincent MUNIER to gather this material with passion and dedication.

"Au fil des songes" was the first book published by Kobalann, reprinted four years after its publication (2010).

ARCTIQUE

new book

Vincent Munier showcases his best pictures from the Arctic. He brought them from different polar expeditions lead in winter during the past 6 years, generally alone and with full autonomy. In the cold, pulling heavy sleds, he walked and skied across hundreds of miles on the territories of the white wolves: the « ghosts of the tundra », as the Inuit have named them. From Scandinavia to the northenmost islands of Nunavut (Canada), we are invited to discover a breathtakingly beautiful, fascinating wild world: polar bears and foxes, caribous, muskoxen, arctic hares, snowy owls… and even a magical encounter, when a pack of nine wolves surrounded the photographer!

Munier’s unique pictures carry us away on a long and adventurous journey across the open spaces of the far North; their gentle, white atmosphere softens the real harshness of this gigantic desert, at the top of the world. And for the first time, the photographer shares with us his travel journal and personal impressions  of the Arctic, one the most remote and fragile places on the planet.

Solitudes I & II by Vincent Munier

solH

Two tomes,
two ways of embracing the serenity of wilderness.

These two bilingual books (French and English) showcase Vincent Munier’s photographic work in two original formats: a vertical tome and a horizontal one.

Mysterious shadows and delicate portraits, silhouettes moving in the mist and hidden beasts punctuate these two reveries on paper. Two complementary books composing together a bright picture of the vast solitudes, sublimed by thoughts selected by Matthieu Ricard, a Buddhist monk, photographer and writer.

Solitudes I rises to the sky. Our look is guided along the tree trunks and through the branches. It tumbles down with a waterfall, falls like the snow and follows with bliss the subtle line of the seaside or the contours of rocks...

Solitudes II caresses the earth. The horizon becomes the architect of each image and invites us to get lost into the storm, to merge with the mountain crests or the whiteness of the ice field… to contemplate infinity.

Introducing Kobalann

Who’s hiding behind this mysterious name, both sweet and rough?

First, it’s the name of the Brown Bear, in the language of the Evens, a nomadic people living in the Siberian tundra. Kobalann is a mythical animal who struck the imagination of our ancesters and still appears in our tales and legends. The ultimate wild beast…

Since 2010, Kobalann has given his name to a small and independent publishing house created by French photographer Vincent Munier. His aim: to offer beautiful books illustrated with photographs or paintings and drawings, as well as cross-media products, from the work of artists inspired by nature. Fine and elegant objects to make you feel the poetry of wilderness…

All our books and boxes are printed in France with vegetable-based inks on PEFC certified papers.
